Brückner Textile Technologies and its channel partner Advanced Dyeing Solutions have installed a state-of-the-art Brückner technical textile finishing line at Heathcoat Fabrics in Tiverton, Devon, UK.
Heathcoat Fabrics is at the forefront of textile engineering with a proud heritage spanning two centuries. The manufacturer from Devon, UK, is a world leader in technical textiles with internationally recognized expertise in texturing, weaving and warp knitting, as well as dyeing and finishing. Heathcoat’s highly specialized products are used in industries such as automotive, healthcare, defense and aerospace, contributing to some of the world’s most innovative fabric projects.
Brückner worked extensively with Heathcoat’s local design team during several project reviews to develop a custom multipurpose finishing line specifically tailored to the needs of Heathcoat fabrics. Lightweight parachute fabrics were required to be processed, which also included heavy-duty conveyor belt holders, as well as 3D knitted and stretch-sensitive microfiber fabrics, where even contact with human skin created fitting problems.
Regina Brückner, CEO and owner of the Brückner Group, commented: “It was not easy to meet Heathcoat’s complex requirements due to the wide variety of technical textiles produced. Our production lines need to complete both light and heavy products, so the design, control and layout of the entire line had to be flexible, practical and easy to operate.”
“Fortunately, the Heathcoat Fabrics team is very innovative and open-minded and we are working together to develop the right technology and processing. We are delighted to be able to use our line performance and of course our technical know-how to convince us of this. a client to whom we are very grateful,” said Ms Brückner.
The direct gas fired Brückner Power-Frame expander has a unique arrangement of heat sources staggered per half zone to provide the best temperature uniformity available across the length and width of the tenter. The device is equipped with a combination pin/clamp chain with low lubrication, horizontal return and multiple fabric paths designed for a variety of fabrics being processed. The Brückner design team worked with the technical experts at Heathcoat Fabrics to develop a very special tenter end end with various trimming and slitting options. Depending on the product, the fabric can be laid on large diameter A-frames, wrapped around cardboard tubes, or woven into carts.
Due to the complexity of the fabric, the latitudinal frame is equipped with the latest weft straightening and counting technology. The control system allows integration into the customer’s ERP system and provides a simple and reproducible operation using the latest barcode scanning tools and lot-related quality reports.
Due to rising energy costs, machines must be equipped with the latest Bruckner heat recovery technology.
Cameron Harvey, Managing Director of Heathcoat, said: “We are very pleased with the work and dedication of the entire Bruckner team. This is especially true for the Bruckner technicians. for several weeks on the farm. Despite these unusual circumstances, the assembly was completed on time. This machine was produced to our complete satisfaction and overcame all the problems associated with our products of very different quality.”
